Azeri police detain Korean over illegal missionary work

BAKU – Police in Azerbaijan have detained a South Korean citizen engaged in illegally promoting Christianity in the country.

Son Chung Soon, who lived in Sumgayit, 30 km north of the capital Baku, was found to have been engaged in such activities after a scrutiny carried out Tuesday by the city’s police and the local representative of the Azerbaijani state body that oversees religious organizations, the interior ministry said.

Law enforcers impounded 60 copies of the Old Testament, a Christian religious book, during a search at the apartment rented by Soon, a teacher of Japanese and Korean languages.
