U.S. says joint military drills postponed by Azeri govt
BAKU – US-Azerbaijani military exercises scheduled for May have been postponed by Azerbaijan’s defense ministry, US embassy spokesman Terry Davidson has said.
"For this reason it would be better if you ask the ministry that question," he told reporters when asked to comment on the causes of the postponement.
The "Regional response-2011" exercises were initially scheduled for May 15-25. Azerbaijani Defense Ministry spokesman Eldar Sabiroghlu said earlier that the drills had been put off "indefinitely". He said reasons for the measure were not known at this point, adding that it would have no impact on US-Azerbaijani military cooperation.
