Medvedev awards Azeri firefighters
MOSCOW – President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday conferred awards to outstanding rescue workers and firemen, including Azerbaijani firefighters, who helped to extinguish devastating forest fires in Russia this summer.
46 people from 15 countries were honored with the awards, Russia’s state news agency ITAR-TASS reported.
Fires caused by scorching heat had swept through Russia, and a state of emergency was declared in some Russian regions. Azerbaijan assisted the neighboring country with helicopters and rescue personnel.
