Moderate opposition party falls out with CE office
Azerbaijan’s opposition Great Establishment Party adhering to a
loyal stance to the authorities announced Wednesday that it had
stopped cooperating with the Council of Europe Information Office
in the country.
In a statement, the party maintained that the Office’s activity over the past period has been failing to support democratic development and normal functioning of political parties in Azerbaijan.
"The organization is mainly engaged in inefficient and harmful activity," the party claimed, adding that the CE office is pursuing its own interests in its relations with local parties and is biased in its assessments of the electoral process.*
