Gas supply was suspended in Azerbaijan's Shamakhi due to earthquake, Spokesman of Azerigas Production Union Ibrahim Karbalayev told Trend on Feb. 6.

He said at present work is underway to restore the gas supply.

"Some walls collapsed after the earthquake in Shamakhi. So, for security reasons, the supply of gas in the city was suspended at 00:35 (GMT +4). However, since the morning, work is underway to eliminate the effects of the earthquake," Karbalayev said.

Karbalayev also said that in other regions and cities hit by the earthquake there were no problems with the gas supply.

Gulnisa Alakbarova, deputy head of the Shamakhi Executive Power, earlier said 14 villages were damaged in the region as a result of the earthquake. But fortunately, there were no casualties.

According to the Republican Seismic Survey Center, five earthquakes have been recorded since yesterday, with the first one, a 4-magnitude earthquake, recorded at 23:19 (GMT +4) 7 km south of the Pirgulu Station in the territory of Agsu. The last earthquake was recorded at 04:25 (GMT +4) 9 km south of the Pirgulu Station in the territory of Ismayilli.

Three of the earthquakes were felt.
