Pakistan seeks to develop ties with such fraternal, friendly countries as Azerbaijan

Pakistan attaches particular importance to relations with such fraternal and friendly countries as Azerbaijan, seeks to further develop relations, continue to contribute to the further expansion of cooperation in the economic, commercial, energy and investment spheres.

This was stated by the Special Assistant for Political Affairs of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Naeemul Haq, at a meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Alizade, the Embassy said in a statement on October 9.

The ambassador stressed that Azerbaijan will continue to support Pakistan, noted that the support provided by Pakistan to Azerbaijan in the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem and other sensitive issues is highly appreciated.

He noted that Pakistan is a brotherly and friendly country for Azerbaijan, and along with political ties, Azerbaijan is interested in further expanding cooperation in the economic, commercial, military, military-technical, energy, tourism, defense industry spheres, etc.

The meeting noted an increase in the number of bilateral visits, as well as continued support and joint cooperation in the framework of international and regional organizations.

Azerbaijan–Pakistan relations are considered to be of "strategic partners" nature.

Modern relations between the two states were established when the republic of Azerbaijan became independent following the collapse of the USSR – on June 9, 1992. Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan – on December 12, 1991.
