The two strategic partners and brotherly nations- Azerbaijan and Pakistan have explored ways of developing the bilateral ties as first deputy speaker of the parliament Ziyafat Asgarov met with a Pakistani delegation led by deputy speaker of the National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi.

Asgarov, addressing the meeting, reiterated that Azerbaijan considers Pakistan as a friendly and brotherly country, Azertac reported.

He noted that the visits of delegations at various level, as well as bilateral meetings and negotiations give an impetus to the strengthening of relations between the two countries. He praised ties with Pakistan in many spheres.

Asgarov said that the two countries have signed more than 30 agreements, particularly in economic and military spheres.

Abbasi, in turn, said reciprocal visits contribute to the deepening of the bilateral relations. He noted the importance of the bilateral cooperation within international organizations.

He also highlighted China–Pakistan Economic Corridor project, expressing his hope that it will benefit all Muslim countries.

Pakistan is one of the oldest and closest allies and strategic partners of Azerbaijan in Asia. Pakistan was among the first countries that recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in October 1991.

Last year, a number of high-level talks and meetings were held in order to develop bilateral trade, investment making, and identify business opportunities.

In October and December 2016, respectively, Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan visited Baku. During their visits, the expansion of trade and economic cooperation was discussed.
