CIS defense ministers assemble in Moscow

The 71st meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS was held in Moscow. Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov represented Azerbaijan at the event.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, Secretariat of the Council of Defense Ministers, CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre and CIS Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of Border troops.
As a result of the meeting, the Council approved a joint action plan of the CIS military forces for 2017, reviewed the issues of participation of teams of the CIS countries’ military forces in International Army Games in 2016 and determined ways of developing military sports in the CIS member states military forces.
The CIS defense ministers also endorsed the development in interaction between services of state secrets protection, cooperation in monitoring and evaluation of radiation, chemical and biological environment, and use of “Password” classifying instrument of recognition. They scrutinized the security situation in aviation flights of the CIS countries’ armed forces during 2015.
In the framework of further development of the Joint CIS Air Defense System, the meeting approved the financial support for the System’s functioning and organization of joint activities of the CIS states’ units of air defense.
The same day, Azerbaijani and Russian Ministers of Defense Zakir Hasanov and Sergei Shoigu signed military cooperation plan for 2017. They said both countries will expand their cooperation, including in the area of trainings.
