One of the most famous and charming actress of Turkish cinema, Turkan Soray, visited Baku to join the gala night of her “Uzaklarda arama” film (Not so far away) on December 9.

The film tells the story of the forceful relocation of an infamous big-city tavern to hostile territory – a conservative, unwelcoming town by the name of Uzaklar (Far Away).

Soray and members of her crew participated in the gala night held in Nizami Cinema Center of Baku.

Leading part in the film is performed by Yagmur Unal, the daughter of the prominent actress.

The cast included Sevda Erginci, Mehtap Bayrı, Mustafa Ugurlu, Ekin Turkmen, Elif Atakan, Serkan Senalp, Asli Samat, Sema Kecik and others.

Before the gala, Soray and her daughter spoke to local media about the film and gala night.

“I’m very happy. Everyone is so kind in Baku. I am a director of the film and my daughter acts as one of the leading roles in it. I hope you will like the film. Working with daughter in the same project is so exciting experience. I think that Yagmur experienced the same feelings too. I was very strict with her during the shooting, since on the set I am not the mother, but the director,” Soray said.

Yagmur, in turn, said she was very pleased to come to the capital of Azerbaijan, and to present the film here.

“Even if we had some misunderstandings with my mother during the shooting, after the film-making process we forgot everything,” she said.

Turkan Soray made her film debut in 1960 at just 15 years old with the film Ask Ruzgarı (The Wind of Love).

For the next five years, Soray appeared in over sixty films. After her 1965 triumph, she was named as one of Turkey's four leading actresses. For the remainder of the 1960s she starred in a further 48 films, making her one of Turkey's most successful female artists in Turkish film history having acted in over 100 movies in the span of ten years.
