An exhibition-sale called "Oriental Tales" has opened in the art gallery "House of Akhundov" in Georgia.

More than 60 samples of visual and applied art stored in private collections and old Azerbaijani carpets are exhibited.

Representatives of the Embassies of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, France, art figures and collectors took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

The project manager, artist Natella Tsiklauri said that Azerbaijani carpets belong to private collections of representatives of various nationalities living in Tbilisi.

"Among the 28 carpets exhibited, there are samples of Karabakh carpets and other regions of Azerbaijan. Thanks to choice of natural dyes Azerbaijani carpets are still of high quality", Tsiklauri said.

Tsiklauri noted that the Azerbaijani carpets exhibited belong to the end of the 19th century.

"The oldest among the carpets is the Karabakh carpet which dates back to the end of the 19th century. This carpet is the most expensive among the exhibits. Its price is 7,000 lari (more than $ 2,500). Funds received from the sale of carpets will be transferred to their owners," she added.

Archil Bezhanishvili, director of the Akhundov House Art Gallery, said the exhibits are interesting and original.

He said that "Tbilisoba", is an annual October festival which celebrates the diversity and history of Tbilisi will be held at the end of this week.

Bezhanishvili hopes that local residents and foreign guests participating in the festival will welcome the exhibition with great interest "Oriental tales".

The exhibition-sale "Oriental Fairy Tales" also features works of art, vases, enamel ware with patterns from the Qajar period, scoreboards by famous artists Richard Karl Sommer and Franz Roubaud on oriental themes.

The exhibition will run until October 30.

Unique Azerbaijani carpets are well-known all over the world for their quality and high artistic value. Besides, amazing and fantastic carpets of Azerbaijan represent a real mystery, leading one inside the fairy tales full of majestic feelings.

The Land of Fire has seven carpet producing regions including Baku, Shirvan, Guba, Tabriz, Karabakh, Ganja and Gazakh and each of them had its own technology, typical patterns and colors.

Colorful Karabakh carpets, which are classified in four groups, represent a fabulous symphony of the most delicate shades of the amazing Karabakh nature.

Karabakh carpets still retain their glory, featuring in many prestigious international auctions, estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. Samples of the Karabakh carpet weaving as cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, kept in major museums, including the Louvre, Hermitage, and adorn the Vatican and the White House.
