Azerbaijan and Belarus plan joint transport projects

BAKU – Azerbaijan and Belarus plan to implement several joint transport projects, the Belarusian transport minister has said on a visit to Baku.

Ivan Shcherbo said in a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ziya Mammadov on Friday that his country intends to rebuild roads and railways jointly with Azerbaijan. In the future, Azerbaijan could also be involved in the manufacturing of Belarusian buses, he said.

Mammadov in turn said Belarus-made equipment could be used to renew Azerbaijan’s railway carriages depot.

"The life span of both freight and passenger railway carriages we have has ended," he said. "Belarus has plants both building and repairing carriages. We have asked Belarus to exchange views on establishing a joint venture in Azerbaijan, and, if deemed appropriate, to set up a repair base here."

The meeting of the two countries’ transport ministers was held as part of Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich’s visit to Azerbaijan.
