Azerbaijan, UAE ink customs deal
BAKU – Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates signed an agreement on customs cooperation in Baku on Tuesday.
The agreement aims to lift double taxation, boost bilateral trade and simplify the work of Azerbaijani investors in the UAE.
The document was inked by the two countries’ customs chiefs Aydin Aliyev and Khalid Ali Al Bostani, on the sidelines of a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
Aliyev said a number of goods imported to the South Caucasus republic from the UAE are made in other countries. In this case, he said, relevant documents "pass through many hands", therefore, the statistics on the trade turnover with the UAE does not reflect the actual volume of bilateral trade.
The State Customs Committee chairman also said some cases of smuggling precious metals to Azerbaijan from the UAE have been reported.
