Another Azeri gold field to launch output soon
BAKU – Production from another gold field in Azerbaijan will be launched soon. Drilling at the Gosha deposit, located in the western Gadabay region, may start this year, according to the Azerbaijan International Mining Company (AIMC), which is tapping the country’s gold fields.
Exploration carried out so far has revealed ample volumes of gold at the field.
The company also intends to expand its operations in the Nakhchivan autonomous republic’s Ordubad region this year.
AIMC was established by Anglo Asian Mining, the only producer of gold in Azerbaijan. In 1997 Anglo Asian Mining PLC signed a production sharing agreement covering six deposits with the Azerbaijani government, which holds a 51 percent stake in the PSA. The fields, located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Tovuz and Gadabay regions as well as three regions that are currently under Armenian occupation, hold about 400 tons of gold, 2,500 tons of silver and 1.5 million tons of copper.
