Azeri tycoon launches ice-cream business in Turkey

BAKU – Azerbaijani tycoon Mubariz Mansimov has established a major company in Turkey to produce ice-cream, Turkey’s Sabah newspaper reported.

Mansimov has invested $150,000 in the Pal Gida company, which will produce ice-cream with the same title.

Hot weather in August and the Ramadan Holiday’s occuring this month have caused ice-cream sales in Turkey to double in comparison with the figures reported a year ago.

Mansimov, board chairman of Palmali group of companies, owns about 200 vessels and one of the world’s largest oil and cargo transport fleets. He is engaged in the hotel business, air transport and construction operations in the neighboring country.

Nuray Nurcihan Perker, Mansimov’s partner and a Palmali executive, says that Pal Gida will be Palmali’s first food industry company in Turkey.

"We have not started work yet," Perker said. "The company has been set up to be ready for swiftly launching production in this field at the right moment."

He also recalled that Mansimov has set up food industry business only in his home country, Azerbaijan, in the southern Lankaran district. The factory of Pal Sud company, established in 2008, currently employs 600 people.
