Former Russia envoy elected to Azeri juice producer’s board
Vasiliy Istratov, the former Russian ambassador in Baku, has been
elected a member of the board of directors of AzNar, Azerbaijan’s
major pomegranate juice producer.
Istratov, who headed his country’s diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan from 2006-2009, currently acts as deputy executive director of Russia’s Russkiy Mir (Russian world) public union.
The make-up of AzNar open joint-stock company’s board was reconsidered at a recent shareholder meeting, and well-known Russian businessman, ethnic Azerbaijani Farhad Ahmadov was elected its chairman. Besides the former ambassador, the newly-elected members include Nail Shahverdiyev, David Morgan, Alexander Kryuchkov and Sergey Prokofyev.
According to AzNar, the shareholders also passed a decision to increase the company’s capital stock to 12.9 million manats (about $16.1 million).
AzNar was established in 1998 in lieu of the Goychay canned food factory through privatization. The enterprise, based in the town of Goychay, is Azerbaijan’s main exporter of pomegranate juice. Its products are delivered to CIS and Eastern European countries, Israel, the United States, France, and Germany.*
