In order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, we have undertaken a number of such commitments as elimination of poverty, the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Inga Rhonda King said at the Baku Forum on Sustainable Development Oct. 25.

She noted that today's success is not enough for achieving the ultimate goal - the cooperation between countries should be present, the effective, multilateral cooperation should be implemented in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

King noted that along with the government, the non-governmental institutions should also join these processes.

Touching upon creation of voluntary communities by the countries, King expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for activities in this direction.

"The UN is grateful to Azerbaijan for the fact that as early as in 2017, such a voluntary community was created and another such community will be presented in 2019," she said.

King said that in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the global cooperation is needed and the forum held in Baku is a successful platform in terms of strengthening regional cooperation for fulfillment of the goals.

“We need to be strong and act together in order to create the world that we desire,” King said.

The VI International Humanitarian Forum has begun its work in Baku today. More than 580 representatives from 86 countries and 24 international organizations participate in this forum, dedicated to the theme entitled as “Shaping a New World and a New Humanity: Creativity and Human Development”.

The Baku Forum on Sustainable Development is being held in the framework of the International Humanitarian Forum.
