Azercell cuts off Azerfon link over `breach of contract`
The connection between Azerbaijan`s cellular operators Azercell and Azerfon will be cut off from Wednesday due to a breach of contract, Azercell said.
According to the company, due to systematic breaches of monthly payment terms of the Interconnection Agreement, concluded between Azercell Telecom LLC and Azerfon LLC (Nar Mobile) on February 28, 2007, which have persisted since July 2008, the related debt of Azerfon has reached about 11,000,000 manats ($13,750,000).
"Despite our multiple formal applications to cover the accumulated debt, no actual steps were taken by Azerfon. Therefore, we are forced to unilaterally cut off the interconnection between the two networks at midnight on July 22, 2009. Azerfon will be responsible for all consequences which might occur in the mobile connections between the subscribers of the two operators," Azercell said.
Interconnection is a connection between the networks of two operators which enables their customers to use mobile communication between them.
