Azerbaijan’s State Property Issues Committee and the Economy Ministry prepared proposals for the improvement of Azeraluminium JSC, country’s biggest enterprise for aluminium production.

The prepared proposals include the possibility of granting deferral for the company to pay its credit obligations, as well as exemption of alumina and anodal blocks’ import from value-added tax, reads a report on evaluation of the results of implementing the Strategic Road Map for the development of heavy industry and machinery in Azerbaijan.

“As of today, a draft Action Plan for development of the aluminum industry in Azerbaijan as well as a draft order of the Azerbaijani president on its approval are already ready,” said the report.

Moreover, proposals were developed to start construction of the second phase of the project to bring up Det-Al Aluminum Complex’s production capacity to 100,000 tons. Also, there are proposals for rendering government support to the projects for processing of alunite ore, production of anodal blocks in Azerbaijan and others.

Azeraluminium JSC has been operating in Azerbaijan since 1955 and was the first enterprise of the Azerbaijan SSR in the field of nonferrous metallurgy. The total area of the plant is 530.63 hectares.

Currently, the plant is put up for privatization.

Aluminum is the most common metal on the Earth, it accounts for more than 8 percent of the total mass of the earth's crust, and it is the third most common chemical element on our planet after oxygen and silicon.

Aluminium is not found in nature in its pure form due to its high chemical activity. Formally, aluminum was discovered only in 1824, and half a century passed before its industrial production began.

Aluminum has a rare combination of valuable properties. It is one of the lightest metals in nature: it is almost three times lighter than iron, but it is durable, extremely plastic and does not corrode, as its surface is always covered with a very thin but very strong oxide film. It is not magnetized, it conducts electricity perfectly and forms alloys with almost all metals.

The aluminum industry is most developed in Ganja and Sumgait. It includes the stages of production of aluminum oxide and aluminum.
