Azerbaijani chess team becomes European champion

Azerbaijani men's chess team won the European Team Chess Championship which is underway in Warsaw.

The final round of the competition between Azerbaijan and Armenia ended in a draw.

In all four games with Armenia's representatives, Azerbaijani chess players Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Radjabov, Rauf Mammadov, and Gadir Huseynov ended up in a draw.

In a parallel match, Russians won the French team who were the lead before the last day of the competition.

Azerbaijan's team led by Shahriyar Mammadyarov finished the tournament with 14 points.

The teams of France, Armenia and Russia gained 13 points. The final placement of the teams will be determined later by additional indicators.

Azerbaijani national team has already won the European Team Chess Championship in 2009, and lost only to Germany's national team at the previous tournament in 2011.

European Team Chess Championship is being held in Warsaw on November 7-18. Men's and women's tournaments are held by the 9-round Swiss system, according to which each game lasts 90 minutes and includes 40 moves, plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the first one.
