New unit to be commissioned at Kazakh refinery
The start-up work is planned to be completed at a new sulfur
production unit," KazMunaiGas - Processing and Marketing" JSC,
which is a shareholder of the refinery, told Trend.
“This unit is planned to be put into operation at one of the Kazakh
biggest oil refineries - Shymkent refinery ("PetroKazakhstan Oil
Products") by late 2015,” the company said.
The company said that the start-up work is being conducted at this
unit.
The new sulfur production unit will be commissioned as part of the
modernization of the Shymkent refinery.
Moreover, the foundation work is planned to be completed for a new
isomerization unit at the Shymkent refinery till late 2015.
"KazMunayGas - refining and marketing" said that a construction
site has been already prepared for a new isomerization unit and the
existing underground utilities were transferred.
The company said that moreover, the foundation is laid for the
equipment and the segment equipment is being assembled.
The development of working documentation and placing of orders for
long-lead equipment continues as part of the second stage of the
project for modernization of Shymkent refinery.
The implementation of this project started in 2011 and is planned
to be completed in 2016, said the company.
The total cost of the project for modernization of Shymkent
refinery is $1.829 billion, according to the company.
The implementation of the modernization project will allow to
increase the plant’s processing capacity from 5.25 million tons to
6 million tons, production of light oil products – from 61 percent
to 89 percent, bring the quality of products into line with Euro-3
standards and reduce the volume of wastewater, according to the
message from Shymkent refinery.
Three large refineries – Atyrau, Shymkent and Pavlodar – operate in
Kazakhstan.
