Belarus and Turkmenistan with a trade turnover of $450 million are able to double this figure in 2015.

The news was announced by Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin at the 6th session of the Belarusian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, Belarusian media reported.

He said this goal is quite acceptable. "We have created a strong foundation, including for the development of new directions of cooperation, which can be modern projects on construction of assembly plants in Turkmenistan," he added.

Kalinin also noted a great potential for direct interaction existing between the business structures of Belarus and Turkmenistan.

"The two countries enjoy significant prospect of scientific and technical cooperation, as well as cooperation in the field of light industry, wood processing, and health care," he added.

Foreign trade turnover between Belarus and Turkmenistan has increased fivefold over the past five years. Belarus exports tractors, trucks, road, construction and agricultural equipment, bicycles, autoloaders, tires, medicines, chemical fibers, wood products and food.

Belarus supplied products worth $140 million to Turkmenistan in January-August 2014. It is planned to supply Belarusian technologies worth $150 million to the Central Asian country by the end of the year.

The largest joint project is the contract for construction of a mining and processing plant in Turkmenistan's eastern region implemented by Belgorkhimprom JSC since 2010. The plant is planned to be commissioned in 2015.
