Kazakhstan faces problems in technical maintenance of passenger cars

Kazakhstan suspended operation of some 72 railway cars over the first nine months of 2013 in line with the results of an audit conducted by the Transport Control Committee of the Kazakh Transport and Communications Ministry.

The operation of these passenger cars was suspended because of their non-compliance with railway transport operation rules and technical regulations on passenger transportation safety, the ministry said.

The operation of these cars will remain suspended till violations are addressed.

Committee's Chairman Asset Asavbaev said that the audit showed that there are problems in technical maintenance of passenger cars.

Moreover, the water supply devices are not working properly in some cars and the water tanks and electric heaters are broken, Asavbaev added.

"We withdrew cars from service because of these violations, as the main task is to provide safe comfortable conditions for passengers, especially now, on the eve of the cold winter season," Asavbaev said.
