Two MPs fight in Georgian parliament after `genocide` remarks

Two lawmakers got into a fight at a Georgian parliament sitting after one of them suggested to discuss recognition of the alleged genocide of Armenians in Turkey, which angered the other.

The incident came as Armenians mark April 24, the anniversary of the killings of their ancestors in the Ottoman Empire during World War I that they claim to be genocide.

After MP Jondi Bagaturia made the suggestion, ethnic Azerbaijani MP Azer Suleymanov objected, throwing a vaseline box at him, after which a fist fight began.

Another MP, Kako Bobokhidze, interfered with the fight, labeling Bagaturia`s initiative a classical provocation.

Bagaturia is the leader of Georgian Group party, which has a minority in parliament.
