Armenian president’s accountant sacked over embezzlement

YEREVAN – The Armenian presidential administration’s chief accountant has been dismissed, along with four other employees of the president’s office, the country’s opposition newspaper Zhamanak (Time) reported.

Anayt Zakaryan, who has held the post since the former president Robert Kocharian’s tenure, is said to have embezzled hefty funds. On account of the appropriated money, he reportedly owned a villa in the capital Yerevan and purchased homes for his five daughters. Zakaryan abused power and easily embezzled funds since relevant bodies had never conducted audits in the president’s accounting office.
