PM criticizes firms drawing tourists to Turkey
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian has
criticized local companies seeking to attract tourists to Turkey
from Armenia.
He claimed that advertising travel to Turkey to increase the number of Armenians traveling to the neighboring country inflicts damage on the domestic economy.
CNN Turk TV channel reported, referring to Radio Liberty, that Sarkisian, who met with the heads of local tourism companies last week, called on them "not to forget about Armenia and Garabagh" for the sake of making more profits.
"Antalya, Ajaria - that`s all you advertise. People already know every patch of those. But you are not informing people about Garabagh [an Azerbaijani region under Armenian occupation]. You are hurting the economy," Sarkisian claimed.
According to Radio Liberty, Armenians prefer vacations in the Turkish resort of Antalya and the Ajaria region of Georgia, a neighboring South Caucasus republic.
Armenia and Turkey have been at odds since 1993 due to Armenia`s policy of occupying Azerbaijani territory and Armenian genocide claims.
