Bulgaria refuses to attend Burgas - Aleksandropolis oil pipeline project
Bulgaria has rejected plans to develop the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline project with Russia and Greece, the Vice Prime Minister and minister of finance Boiko Borisov said.
"Bulgaria is quitting the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline project," Borisov said after a meeting with EU ambassadors in Sofia.
Bulgaria will not take part in the project because Burgas region residents never supported it and also because its route lies through protected nature areas, Borisov stated.
The project`s efficiency is also up in the air, Borisov said.
Russia, Greece and Bulgaria signed a contract in 2007 on joint construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline to bypass tankers using the busy sea lanes of the Black Sea.
