Regional alliance not invited to CIS summit, no explanation given
The Kazakh resort of Borovoye hosted an informal
meeting of CIS presidents, the final one to be held this year, on
Friday and Saturday.
At the meeting, the presidents discussed the global economic crisis. Only eight out of 12 CIS countries attended the summit, while members of the GUAM group - Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova - had not been invited. The Kazakh Foreign Ministry did not elaborate on not inviting the GUAM group.
Georgia did not attend since it had earlier withdrawn its membership in the CIS.
