MP blasts speaker
Renowned singer, MP Zeynab Khanlarova pounded a wave
of criticism at Speaker Ogtay Asadov during a session of the
Azerbaijani parliament on Tuesday.
Khanlarova, who took the floor out of turn at the sitting, which proceeded without the speaker present, said First Vice-Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov deserved to take his place. Although Asgarov opposed the suggestion, the lawmaker went on with her statement.
"Ziyafat Asgarov is the one who appreciates art and knows what it`s all about," she said.
Further, Khanlarova blamed Asadov for failing to extend congratulations over her jubilee. The prominent singer recalled that she had been hosted by the Azerbaijani president on this occasion and received the highest order, complaining over lack of this attention from the speaker.
"I have been a member of parliament for 25 years. But the man who sits in the middle [Speaker Asadov] did not congratulate me. Who do you think you are?" Khanlarova uttered.
Further, Khanlarova`s microphone was switched off. However, she continued her statement, leveling accusations against Asadov.
