Azerbaijan and Thailand enjoy good opportunities to develop trade relations, Tharit Charungvat believes.

The Thai ambassador to Baku with a residence in Ankara told Trend on September 16 that the two countries have had diplomatic relations for quite a long time.

He said that Thailand has many things to sell to Azerbaijan, adding that “Thailand is a capital of food, fruits and seafood”.

Charungvat went on to add that Thailand needs a lot more Azerbaijani oil and gas in the future.

The tourism sector will make relations between the two countries stronger, according to the ambassador.

“It will also open opportunities for trade and investments,” he added. “Azerbaijan is a beautiful country with a very long history,” he added. “This is something Thai people would want to discover, I believe they would like it.”

The diplomat noted that while in Baku he discussed a possible air service agreement between the two countries, which would be a fundamental agreement allowing flights to Azerbaijan from Thailand.

Congratulating Azerbaijan for the successful holding of the Baku 2015 European Games, the ambassador said the Games have contributed to get Azerbaijan better known in the world.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in July 1992. The trade turnover between Thailand and Azerbaijan is almost a little more than $1.2 billion per year. It is expected that Thailand will have a full representation in Baku.
