Tensions still high on contact line of troops
The ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line was broken 128 times by the Armenian armed forces during the last 24 hours.
Azerbaijani Defense Ministry made such a statement on August 7.
The armed forces of Armenia, located in the village of Aygepar of Armenia's Berd region, fired at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Alibeyli of the Tovuz region.
Also, Azerbaijani positions, located at the nameless heights and in the villages of Gaymagli, Kemerli and Gizilhajili of the Gazakh region, were fired from the positions located at the nameless heights and in the villages of Barekamavan, Doveh of Armenia's Noyemberyan region and Berkaber village of Armenia's Ijevan region.
Moreover, Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions located in the villages of Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Sarijali, Kengerli, Merzili, Javahirli of Aghdam, Goyarkh, Chayli, Chileburt, Gizil Oba of Terter, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli of Fizuli, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy, Kuropatkino of the Khojavend region and at the nameless heights in the Goygol region.
The aggressor Armenian forces were silenced with return fire.
Armenia escalated tensions on the border areas from July 31, and scattered fighting has continued ever since. Thirteen Azerbaijani servicemen were killed and several others injured during the clashes between two sides. Despite what is said by Armenian sources, they suffered more losses.
The precarious cease-fire between Azerbaijan and Armenia was reached after a lengthy war that displaced over a million Azerbaijanis and has been in place between the two South Caucasus countries since 1994.
Since the hostilities, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on Armenia's withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory, but they have not been enforced to this day.
