Azerbaijan vows to restore its territorial integrity

By Jamila Babayeva

A high-ranking Azerbaijani official has vowed that his country will restore its territorial integrity.

Chief of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription, Lieutenant-General Arzu Rahimov said, Armenia should know that Azerbaijan will restore its territorial integrity.

"Azerbaijan's only unresolved problem is Nagorno Karabakh conflict. As a result of the conflict, Azerbaijan lost thousands of its compatriots, but the world is still silent, UN Security Council's resolutions have not been implemented yet," he said. "But Armenia should know that sooner or later Azerbaijan will restore its territorial integrity and Azerbaijani state will never allow a second Armenian state on its territory."

Rahimov said it is necessary to resolve the conflict within the framework of international law.

He said that the 22th anniversary of Khojaly genocide will be marked soon adding that the tragedy does not only belong Azerbaijanis but the whole world.

"Unfortunately, the perpetrators of this tragedy are not still sitting in the dock. We believe in the triumph of truth and justice," he stressed.

Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that caused a brutal war in the early 1990s.

The UN Security Council's four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal have not been enforced to this day.

Peace talks, mediated by Russia, France and the US and the OSCE Minsk Group are underway on the basis of a peaceful outline -called Madrid Principle -proposed by the Minsk Group co-chairs. The negotiations have been largely fruitless so far.
