Armenia blamed for training terror groups
Armenia trains terrorist groups and cultivates drugs in Azerbaijan`s occupied territories, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov has said.
Addressing an international conference of Ombudsmen in Baku on Monday, Hasanov recalled that Armenia has not allowed the U.N. to monitor the occupied territories. He added that the international community must not remain indifferent to the issue.
``The Nagorno Karabakh conflict remains unresolved because of the double standards applied by the international community,`` Hasanov said.
He said further that Russia -- which co-chairs the OSCE Minsk Group mediating peace talks along with the United States and France -- should define its position on the issue because Moscow has the key to resolving the long-standing conflict.
``Armenia is of no interest for Russia,`` he said. ``Azerbaijan is much more important to it.``
Hasanov noted that France adheres to a pro-Armenian stance on the Karabakh conflict, while the U.S. ``cannot determine its position on this issue without Russia``.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a brutal war that ended with the signing of a fragile cease-fire in 1994. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including the Nagorno Karabakh region, has since been occupied by Armenian armed forces. Peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
