EU`s Rompuy to visit Azerbaijan early July
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy is due to start a high-level visit to Azerbaijan July 5 as part of his tour of the South Caucasus region, EU Delegation head Roland Kobia has said.
``This will be the EU president`s first visit to the region, and this, I think, is a concrete sign of Europe`s continuous willingness to engage with Azerbaijan,`` Kobia added.
During the visit, discussions will cover a wide range of issues pertaining to EU-Azerbaijan relations, as well as Azerbaijan`s long-standing conflict with Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh.
``As you know, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Union`s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton have said the EU is ready to give support to the process [of resolving the conflict] and help the Minsk Group [an OSCE group brokering Karabakh peace talks],`` Kobia said. He expressed confidence that Rompuy would deliver the same message during his visit.
