US Congress approves 2012 financial aid for S. Caucasus states

US Congress has approved financial aid the United States will provide to the South Caucasus states in 2012, allocating $16.6 million to Azerbaijan, $40 million to Armenia and $66 million to Georgia, News Armenia reports.

According to the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program, Azerbaijan and Armenia will reportedly receive $3 million each. Under the program for International Military Education and Training (IMET), Azerbaijan will receive $900,000, which exceeds the aid for Armenia two-fold.

The Congress also allocated $2 million to Nagorno Karabakh, an Azerbaijani region where ethnic Armenians are running a self-proclaimed republic, the report said.
