Turkish MP: France will pay costly price for law on Armenian ‘genocide’

France will pay a bill for its mistake if it passes a law criminalizing denial of the so-called "genocide" of Armenians, Turkish MP Mustafa Kabakci says.

"We believe that the whole Turkic world will sharply oppose France's move, and Paris will pay a costly price for it," Kabakci told journalists on a visit to Baku.

The Turkish lawmaker said the alleged "genocide" is not a political, but a scientific issue. Turkey is ready to open all its archives, engage scientists in researching it and ensure "triumph of historical truth", he said.

"But turning a historical issue into a political one, and trying to accuse Turkey is wrong altogether. Historians should make a final judgment on the matter," Kabakci stressed.

He added that present-day Turkey is not the same as it was in the past, and those who doubt it will become convinced that they are wrong.

"Turkey has never been and will never be alone. The society covering wide Turkic geography, including the fraternal Azerbaijani people, stands by us," Kabakci said.
