Caucasus Muslim Board chairman Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazada on November 29-30 will visit Yerevan where he is expected to meet with Armenian clerical leader at Russian Patriarch Kirill’s initiative, Armenian media reported.

The long-standing Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh may be discussed at the meeting.

While in the Armenian capital, the Azerbaijani clerical leader is due to attend a meeting of CIS Inter-Religious Council’s presidium, Armenian Catholicos Karekin II was quoted as saying.

But Caucasus Muslims Board spokesperson Rahima Dadashova said no decision has been passed yet on Pashazada’s visit to Yerevan.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani Parliament Vice-Speaker Bahar Muradova said that in order to facilitate a settlement to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, it is necessary to avail of the efforts by all people wielding influence, including clerical leaders.

"If the goal here is to resolve the conflict peacefully, Azerbaijan should capitalize on these opportunities," Muradova said.
