UK offers Azerbaijan to sign military co-op agreement

BAKU – The United Kingdom has offered Azerbaijan to sign an agreement on military cooperation. The proposal was announced by a UK military official in a meeting with Defense Minister Safar Abiyev in Baku on Tuesday, according to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Graham Howard, a UK Defense Ministry official, said the UK would step up effort to develop military relations between the two countries.

"It is time to sign a bilateral military cooperation agreement," he said.

Minister Abiyev briefed Howard on the military and political situation in the South Caucasus region and Armenia’s occupation of a part of neighboring Azerbaijan’s territory. He noted that the Armenian aggression has persisted for nearly two decades, referring to the time that has passed since the two countries signed a precarious cease-fire in 1994 following a lengthy war.

"Armenia’s continuing its policy of occupation is due to the fact that there are still double standards in the world today," Abiyev added.
