Azeri gov`t reveals 13 more persons in Armenian captivity
BAKU – 13 Azerbaijanis who went missing as a result of the armed conflict with Armenia in the early 1990s were captured and are held in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, according to official estimates drawn up in the first half of 2011.
Azerbaijan’s state body on POWs and missing persons disclosed the data in a report issued on Tuesday.
As of July 1, 4,043 people were registered by the state commission as unaccounted for, while 1,400 others – as persons released from Armenian captivity.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war over Nagorno Karabakh that ended with the signing of a fragile cease-fire in 1994. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since the war that displaced up to a million Azerbaijanis. Peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
