BAKU – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Friday met with leaders of several political parties in Azerbaijan, the Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan reported.

The meeting was held at the request of Azerbaijani political parties. "The meeting discussed the role of political parties of both countries in developing bilateral ties. The importance of developing relations between the parties of the two countries was mentioned during the meeting," head of the press service of the Iranian embassy, Abbas Iskenderi, told the press.

He said at the meeting it was suggested to further develop relations between the parties represented in parliaments of Muslim countries.

"In today's world, in addition to official diplomacy, parties play an important role," Larijani said at the meeting. He welcomed the development of relations between the parties of the two countries. He said Iran is interested in developing such relationships, which would serve the interests of both countries.
