UN chief urges swift settlement of Karabakh conflict
BAKU – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said in a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in the United States on Tuesday that there is a need to find a speedy settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh and he expects progress in the peace process, according to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
He also welcomed the high-level cooperation between the UN and Azerbaijan.
Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan has nominated its candidacy for the October elections to the non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2012-2013, citing advantages of the country’s admission to the UN SC ranks.
