Azerbaijan bought Turkish arms worth $20m in four months: report
ANKARA – Azerbaijan was among the biggest importers of weaponry from Turkey in January-April, Turkish daily Zaman reported.
Turkey reportedly exported arms totaling $92 million in this period, with Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia each accounting for $20 million of the amount.
The United States purchased weaponry worth $10m from the country. The rest of the sales were made to Lebanon, Russia, Belgium, Pakistan, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, and Portugal, the report said.
Azerbaijan plans to spend a total of $1.35 billion on arms purchases in 2011.
Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said last year that his country’s military aid to Azerbaijan had exceeded $200m.
