Azeris unaffected by ethnic clashes in Russia - ambassador
BAKU – The recent ethnic clashes in Russia do not affect Azerbaijanis, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin says.
"Fortunately, this situation doesn't affect the Azerbaijanis, I'm not surprised, as your compatriots behave with dignity in Russia," Dorokhin told journalists on Monday.
"The situation with ethnic clashes is tense, one can give different estimates of these events. I think that one should not rush into one-sided conclusions. For the Russian leadership it is a very serious signal and the authorities will very seriously deal with this problem," Dorokhin said.
Mass clashes took place in the center of Moscow Dec.11, as a result of which over 30 people were injured. The reason for the rally was the death of a Spartak football club fan in a scuffle with natives of the North Caucasus. Football fans and nationalist groups took part in the demonstrations. They beat several persons of non-Slavic appearance.
