BAKU – The leader of Azerbaijan’s opposition Musavat party Isa Gambar has given up his plans to resign, the former chairman of the party’s Supreme Assembly, Sulhaddin Akbar, told journalists.
Under Musavat’s bylaws, Gambar is to step down at the party’s next congress. Gambar, himself, said in his statements prior to the recent parliament elections that he would quit.
Akbar said that the Musavat chairman had changed his mind "not to leave Musavat members in a difficult situation" that emerged following the November 7 elections.
Musavat failed to gain seats in the new parliament.
