Azeri opposition party spells out on recent resignations
BAKU – Azerbaijan's opposition Musavat Party issued a statement in connection with the resignation of the chairman party's assembly Sulheddin Akbar and a member of the assembly, Ibrahim Ibrahimli, the press service of the party reported Wednesday.
"Musavat Party was surprised at the statements by Ibrahim Ibrahimli and Sulheddin Akbar made recently. The statements by Ibrahim Ibrahimli and Sulheddin Akbar said that they leave the party. The reason is that most members of the assembly are not interested in integrating the opposition and that made a negative decision the unification of the Musavat Party and Azerbaijan Popular Front Party," the statement said.
The statement also expressed surprise at the reasons for resignation of these persons from the party. According to the statement, the party does not intend to abandon the course of integration of opposition.
"Musavat Party supports the idea of uniting all forces committed to the course of Rasulzade-Elchibey, creating a political union of APFP and Musavat, considers it possible to unite all parties, following this course, into a single organization," the statement said.
Sulheddin Akbar and Ibrahim Ibrahimli resigned on Monday. Akbar explained this step as disagreement with the strategic course of the party. Ibrahimli cited as evidence the fact that the party leadership does not trust him.
