Baku issues protest note to Germany
The Azerbaijani embassy in Germany has sent a note to the country's
foreign ministry after materials on the Armenia-occupied Upper
(Nagorno) Garabagh region were displayed in the International
Tourism Exchange exhibition held in Berlin March 5-9 in a section
designated for Armenia.
The document said that Armenia, which is supposed to demonstrate its tourism potential at the exhibition, is actually abusing the event to conduct political propaganda, just like in previous years.
The section on Armenia showed Upper Garabagh, which is an inseparable part of Azerbaijan, either as part of Armenia or as an independent republic in various tourism brochures, maps and booklets, the note said. It indicated that Azerbaijan, which foresaw this beforehand, officially appealed to the exhibition organizer, specialized company Messe Berlin, and expressed its outrage. But the company replied that the section on Armenia was considered during the event as this country's territory and that it was allegedly not authorized to thwart any activity there.
The Azerbaijani government pointed out that Messe Berlin's stance on the matter contradicted the German government's official position on recognizing the country's territorial integrity. It expressed confidence that Germany, which has always adhered to a fair stance with regard to Azerbaijan, would avail of its levers of influence to prevent such actions in its territory that violate international law.
