Hackers inflicting heavy loss to AzAL convicted
The members of a gang consisting of Azerbaijani and Nigerian
citizens who inflicted damage worth 100,000 manats ($125,000) to
Azerbaijan’s state airline AzAL by hacking its computers were
convicted on Wednesday.
The Court on Grave Crimes sentenced the three nationals of
Azerbaijan to seven to ten years in jail, and a citizen of Nigeria
was convicted for seven years.
Five more people were handed down suspended sentences of four to
seven years, and one more was fined for 1,000 manats ($1,250).
The defendants had intruded into AzAL’s website, www.azal.az, and conducted illegal
transactions using the credits cards of foreign nationals, namely,
sold tickets ordered by e-mail for cash to others for cheaper
prices.*
