Minister: Armenia, Azerbaijan may co-op ‘only after conflict is settled’
Armenia and Azerbaijan may resume comprehensive cooperation only after their conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh has been settled, Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov has told a UN conference in Yerevan, Novosti Armenii news agency reported.
Abbasov, who is visiting the Armenian capital to attend the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) event, said the two countries have extensive potential for cooperation in the agriculture sector. "Exports of Azerbaijan’s agricultural goods to Armenia are possible."
Abbasov recalled that Azerbaijan was supplying Armenia, another former Soviet republic, with fruits and vegetables and other vegetable products during the USSR times.
Nonetheless, the minister noted that until a comprehensive solution is reached on the Garabagh conflict, no relations will be forged between the two countries in any field.
Abbasov met with his Armenian counterpart on Wednesday. He also visited a house he was born and raised in in Armenia and the villages where his relatives once lived.*
