Environment minister ascends to Kilimanjaro
An expedition led by Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Baghirov has ascended to Kilimanjaro, the highest mount in Africa.
The expedition wrapped up its trip to the Uhuru peak of the mountain, situated 5,895 above sea level, on Sunday.
This is the first group to have climbed to the mount under the Azerbaijani flag. The expedition was making the trip under the motto "Azerbaijan, toward new pinnacles, forward with Ilham [President Aliyev]."
Kilimanjaro, located in northeastern Tanzania, is the tallest mountain chain on the African continent.
We recall that the Azerbaijani environment minister headed an expedition on a trip to Antarctica in December 2008-January 2009. The group rose to the highest point of the icy continent - Mount Vinson, and further headed toward the South Pole, persevering temperatures ranging between -35 and -40.
