Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan in Sudan Tarig Hamza Zeynalabdin, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported on October 27.

Mammadyarov congratulated Tarig Hamza Zeynalabdin on the beginning of his activity as an honorary consul.

The sides exchanged views on expanding bilateral economic ties, and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Sudan in the spheres of tourism, air transport and other areas.

The consul stressed that Sudan met with great interest the experience of Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations (ASAN Service), and noted the importance of cooperation in this area.

Mammadyarov and Tarig Hamza Zeynalabdin also noted that Azerbaijan and Sudan’s fruitful cooperation within international organizations, in particular the UN and OIC, is an impetus for the development of the two countries’ relations.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister also said that Azerbaijan highly appreciates Sudan’s support in the adoption of international organizations’ resolutions supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and condemning the military aggression of Armenia against the country.

The honorary consul further noted that during the period of his activity he will make efforts to develop bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Sudan.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Sudan were established in February 16, 1993.

As a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Sudan opened its embassy in Azerbaijan in 1993. However, the country had to suspend the activity of its diplomatic mission in Baku in 1999 due to financial difficulties.
