Semra Rahimli will represent Azerbaijan at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm!
The 21-year-old singer with her song “Miracle” has become Azerbaijan’s choice for the annual music contest. The song will be presented this weekend.
Azerbaijani broadcaster ITV announced about its decision to send Semra Rahimli to the contest on March 10.
Azerbaijan will perform in the first semi-final of the contest alongside with other 17 participants including Russia, Croatia, Finland, Moldova, Armenia, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, San Marino, Cyprus, Malta, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Iceland, Austria.
The two semi-finals are scheduled for May 10 and 12 respectively.
Turkish online-edition Eschalley.com has recently published the photo of Rahimli together with Swedish composer and poet Sandra Bjorkman, who is co-author of the songs, which Azerbaijani singers performed at the "Eurovision" in different years.
Bjorkman posted the photo on her Instagram page and then deleted the photo, and this became a source for the rumors.
Semra previously participated in the Eurovision national selection in 2012. Even though she couldn’t win the lucky ticket then, 16-year-old Samra became one of the public’s favorite as the youngest contestant.
In 2015 Semra participated in The Voice of Turkey where she made it to the quarterfinals and in March 2016 she became the first season’s finalist of The Voice of Azerbaijan where she performed ‘Say Something’.
Azerbaijan debuted at the Eurovision contest in 2008 and has always presented remarkable shows since then. On its fourth attempt with Ell and Nikki's Running Scared song, the Land of Fire won the event, bringing the contest to Baku’s Crystal Hall in 2012.
Last year Azerbaijani representative Elnur Huseynov, who competed for the second time at the contest after his debut in 2008, placed 12 with his mystical ballad “Hour of the Wolf”.
